Begin met het aanleggen altijd eerst met de treintafel of ter wel de onderbouw. Vervolgens ga je een ruwbouw aanleggen zodat je weet waar bergen komen, tunnels e.t.c. Daarna ga je het spoor aanleggen en eventueel ook de eerste aansluitingen maken omdat je nu overal nog goed bij kunt.
Daarna is het tijd voor de scenery: gras, struiken, bomen en huisjes komen op de modelspoorbaan.
Nu het landschap er leuk uit ziet is het tijd om er een paar treinen te laten rondrijden, en daarna de boel nog eens te weatheren, of ter wel kunstmatige stof en vuiligheid aanbrengen die in het grootbedrijf door de tijd onstaat.
Nu alles staat is het natuurlijk tijd om plezier te maken, uit te breiden en de boel natuurlijk goed te onderhouden.
